Project Announcement 

After completing the WalkWorks Capacity-Building Pre-Planning Program, Leetsdale has applied for and was awarded in the Fall of 2025 full funding to develop an Active Transportation Plan . WalkWorks is a collaboration between the Pennsylvania Downtown Center and the PA Department of Health. The funding is provided by the Preventive Health and Health Services Block Grant from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.

 

Why This Is Important 

 

Active transportation refers to walking, riding a bike or other micromobility device, using a wheelchair, or accessing transit to get to everyday destinations.
Planning for active transportation means looking for ways to make communities safer, more accessible, and more connected along inviting networks of sidewalks, trails, shared use paths, and bike lanes, while considering the community’ unique location, population, needs, and aspirations.
Having an Active Transportation Plan in place will help Leetsdale’s Borough define and find further grant funding for infrastructure-related projects of urgent priority. 
 
Project Consultants Selected 

 

Leetsdale selected Pashek+MTR, a respected and experienced Pittsburgh-based planning firm, to complete the work on this project. Our project consultants are collecting data, mapping out existing conditions, and putting together public outreach efforts. 


Steering Committee Assembled

We invited Leetsdale residents, community leaders, local organizations, non-profit and agency partners, to be part of the Steering Committee for this project. Committee members will review draft documentation, share knowledge and experience, and provide diverse viewpoints. Thank you to everyone who responded with the commitment to participate! The first committee meeting will take place in late January 2026.

Survey Released 

 

We have prepared a community survey on accessibility, walkability, access to public transit, and other active transportation related issues in Leetsdale. The survey is open to everyone who lives, goes to school, works, or shops in Leetsdale. We welcome your responses and comments. The survey can be found at the link below.

Paper copies of the survey can be obtained at the Borough Office. Flyers with a QR code can be found in the common gathering spaces around Quaker Valley area.
